Grok Build remote control from your phone

xAI's Grok Build is a terminal agent with no remote of its own. Termdeck gives it one, the same remote you use for Claude Code and Codex.

Grok Build is fast and cheap to run, and it lives in a terminal. Start a long task, step away, and the session is stranded on a machine you are not sitting at, possibly waiting on a permission prompt.

At the time of writing, xAI ships no official remote for Grok Build. Termdeck adds one.

How it works

The Termdeck agent on your machine runs Grok over the Agent Client Protocol (grok agent stdio) and connects out to Termdeck. From any browser, or Termdeck installed on your phone, you can:

  • Start a Grok Build chat in any project folder on any of your machines.
  • Watch the live transcript and tool calls.
  • Approve or deny tool calls, from the app or from a push notification.
  • Switch model or reasoning effort mid run.
  • Queue a follow up. It is sent when the current turn ends, and you can discard it before then.
  • Stop the turn.

Grok's sessions stay in Grok's own session files on your machine, so a terminal and the browser share one session. See where Grok CLI stores sessions and resuming a Grok CLI session.

Grok beside Claude Code and Codex

Most people do not pick one agent. They pick the right one per task. In Termdeck, Grok is a third engine with the same transcript, approval card and diff view as Claude Code and Codex. Run Grok on a quick spike while Claude works the big refactor, in the same project, in two panes of Terminal mode.

Permission modes from the phone

Grok's permission modes work the same from the phone as in the terminal. Approve everything one by one, or set an auto approve rule for the tools you trust. The guide to Grok CLI permission modes covers each one.

Set it up

  1. Install the Grok CLI and sign in on your machine.
  2. Start a Termdeck free trial and run the one line install.
  3. Pick Grok when you start a new chat.
  4. Turn on push for approvals in notifications.

Grok Build remote control, answered

Does Grok Build have a mobile app?

Not from xAI at the time of writing. Termdeck installs from the browser as an app on iPhone and Android and drives Grok on your computer.

Does Grok run in Termdeck's cloud?

No. Grok runs on your machine with your login and your repo. Termdeck only relays the conversation.

Which models can I use?

Whatever your Grok CLI offers. See Grok CLI models and context.

Can I use Grok and Claude Code on the same project?

Yes, in separate chats in the same folder. Termdeck shows both side by side.
